Battery Issues
Replace the batteries with fresh alkaline batteries — do not use rechargeable (lower voltage). If the display is dim or blank, batteries are low. If the display works but the unit does not respond, point the remote directly at the indoor unit receiver (usually a small window on the front panel). Clean the receiver with a soft, dry cloth.
Signal and Range Issues
Ensure nothing is blocking the signal path between the remote and the indoor unit receiver. The range is typically 10-15 meters (30-50 feet). Direct sunlight on the receiver can interfere — close curtains if needed. Fluorescent lights can also cause interference. Try moving closer to the unit.
When to Replace the Remote
Replace the remote if: new batteries do not work, the display is blank even with new batteries, the remote has physical damage (cracked, liquid damage), or it will not communicate with the unit even within range. Replacement remotes cost $20-80 online. Universal mini-split remotes ($15-30) work with most brands.
