Quiet Mode Settings
Most heat pump remotes have a Quiet or Night mode button. This reduces the indoor fan speed to the minimum level, lowering sound from 35 dB (normal) to 19-25 dB (quiet) — about the level of a whisper. Some units also reduce the outdoor unit noise in quiet mode.
Additional Noise Reduction Tips
Close the louver direction so air does not blow directly onto you — indirect airflow reduces perceived noise. Set the timer to turn off the unit after you fall asleep. Clean the air filter — a dirty filter creates airflow noise. Ensure the indoor unit is securely mounted — a loose unit vibrates against the wall.
Quietest Models for Bedrooms
If you are selecting a heat pump for a bedroom, choose models with the lowest indoor dB rating: Mitsubishi MSZ-FS series: 19-26 dB, Fujitsu Halcyon: 19-27 dB, Daikin Emura: 20-26 dB, LG Art Cool: 21-27 dB. All of these are quiet enough for undisturbed sleep when set to low fan speed.
