5 Signs Your Heat Pump Was Installed Incorrectly

Short Cycling on Mild Days

A heat pump that turns on and off frequently during mild weather may be oversized or have incorrect refrigerant charge. Both are installation errors. A properly sized and charged heat pump runs for 10-30 minutes per cycle depending on conditions.

Loud Vibrations from New System

If the heat pump has been noisy since installation, the unit may not be properly mounted on a level pad, the line set may be undersized or touching the wall, or the unit may have been damaged during installation. New systems should operate quietly.

Thermostat Not Configured Correctly

If the heat pump blows cold air in heating mode or runs emergency heat constantly, the thermostat reversing valve setting or auxiliary heat staging is misconfigured. This is a common installation error that wastes energy and reduces comfort.
