Heat Pump Capacitor Replacement Cost in Vancouver

Run vs Start Capacitors
Heat pumps have two types of capacitors: run capacitors (provide continuous voltage to the compressor and fan motor) and start capacitors (provide extra starting torque — found on some older units). Dual-run capacitors combine the compressor and fan capacitor in one unit.
Signs of a Bad Capacitor
The compressor or fan motor hums but does not start, the unit takes longer than normal to start, the compressor or fan runs hot, the capacitor is visibly bulging or leaking, or the system runs but with reduced performance. A bulging capacitor is a sign of imminent failure.
Replacement Cost
Capacitor replacement costs $200-400 including the part ($15-50) and labour ($150-250). Dual-run capacitors cost more than single. This is one of the most common heat pump repairs. Our technicians carry capacitors for all brands. Same-day service available.
