Furnace Limit Switch Replacement Cost in Vancouver

What the Limit Switch Does

The limit switch monitors heat exchanger temperature and shuts off the burners if the temperature gets too high. It is a safety device that prevents the heat exchanger from overheating and cracking. When the switch trips, the furnace blower continues running to cool the heat exchanger.

Signs of a Failing Limit Switch

The furnace shuts off before reaching the set temperature but the blower keeps running, the furnace short-cycles, it displays a limit switch error code, or the switch is stuck open (furnace never starts). A switch that trips repeatedly indicates restricted airflow or a failing blower — not just a bad switch.

Replacement Cost

Limit switch replacement costs $250-500 including part ($30-80) and labour ($150-300). If the new switch also trips, the underlying airflow issue must be diagnosed — this may add diagnostic time and cost for addressing the root cause.

Safety Reminder

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or believe there is an immediate danger, leave the property and contact emergency services or the appropriate gas emergency authority. Do not remain inside — exit the building immediately and call for help from outside.
