Duct Cleaning Scams in Vancouver — How to Avoid Being Cheated

Common Scams
The $99 whole-home special: this is a loss leader to get a technician in your home. They will inspect and claim your ducts are severely contaminated, then upsell you to $1,000+ service. The fake inspector: someone claims to be from the health department or utility requiring duct cleaning — check credentials.
How to Choose a Reputable Company
Choose a NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) certified company. Ask for a before-and-after video inspection of your ductwork — a reputable company will proudly show what they cleaned. Get written estimates from at least two companies. Avoid companies that pressure you to decide immediately.
When Duct Cleaning Is Actually Needed
Health Canada recommends duct cleaning only when: visible mould growth inside ducts, infestation by rodents or insects, or excessive dust and debris blowing from vents. Routine cleaning is not medically necessary for most homes. A well-maintained filter does the job.
